Privacy Policy — Òrain

Òrain collects nothing.

That is the whole policy, but the App Store requires it spelled out, and a one-line answer to a serious question deserves the detail behind it.

What the app stores, and where

Your songs, versions, chords, notes, ratings, collections and tags are kept in a database inside the app’s own container on your device. Recordings you make and files you import — audio, video, PDFs — are kept as files in that same container.

None of it is sent anywhere. There is no Òrain account, no Òrain server, and no sign-in. Nobody, including the developer, can see your library.

If you have iCloud Backup switched on, your device may include the app’s data in your own encrypted backup. That is Apple’s backup of your device, under your Apple Account, and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy rather than this one.

What the app does not do

• No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting of any kind.
• No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
• No tracking, and no sharing of anything with any other company.
• No accounts, no email address, no name, no location.
• No third-party SDKs.

The microphone

If you record yourself singing, iOS asks your permission for the microphone the first time. The recording is written straight to a file in the app’s own container. It is not transmitted, not processed anywhere else, and not transcribed. You can delete it from within the app, and deleting the app removes everything.

You can withdraw the permission at any time in Settings, under Privacy & Security → Microphone, or under Òrain’s own entry in Settings.

Links you paste in

You can attach a link to a song — a video on YouTube, a track on Apple Music, a page anywhere on the web. When you tap play, that link is opened in a web view, and at that moment your device contacts that company’s servers exactly as your browser would. What they collect is governed by their privacy policy, not this one.

Two things worth knowing about that:

• Nothing identifying Òrain or you travels with it. The app adds no identifier and receives nothing back.
• It only happens when you tap. Nothing is contacted while you are reading the words, and a song with no links contacts nothing ever.

Files you share out

Sharing a song or a library uses the standard iOS share sheet, so the file goes wherever you choose to send it and nowhere else.

Children

Òrain has no accounts, no messaging, no user-generated content visible to anyone else, and no purchases. It collects nothing from anyone of any age.

Changes

If this ever stops being true, the policy will be updated before the change ships, and the date at the top will say when.
