Common questions
Where is my diary kept?
On your device, and in your own private iCloud if sync is on. Nothing is sent anywhere else. See the privacy policy.
Can I get my writing back out?
Yes, and without needing this app. Archive → Save Archive
writes a .lifediary file, which is an ordinary zip — rename it
.zip and you will find the photographs as files and the words in
diary.json beside them.
Why is my entry filed under the wrong date?
Entries are filed by when the event happened, not when you wrote it up. Edit the entry and change the date at the top. A photograph shared into the app brings its own date with it from the camera.
The sidebar says “Temporary — not saved”.
Another copy of Cuimhne is already running and holding the diary. Quit that one and reopen this. Nothing written into a window showing that warning is kept.
My photographs are using a lot of iCloud storage.
Settings shows what the diary holds and roughly what share of a free iCloud account that is. Photographs are reduced to 2560px and video to 1080p on the way in, unless you choose Original quality.
Can I keep more than one diary?
Yes — More → Diaries. Each can have its own passcode. A passcode is a lock, not encryption: it keeps a casual reader out, and is not proof against somebody with access to the device's files.
The text is too small.
Settings → Reading → Text size, up to Largest. You can also pinch on an entry.
Printing
Print a Book makes a PDF: serif type, generous margins, a year on each section divider, photographs at column width with captions, and a contents page. One entry, a range of dates, or a whole life, and it can be filtered to a single tag.
